Cherry Hill Car Accident Lawyers: Car Color and Risk of Accident
December 01, 2015
The color of a person’s car could increase their risk in being involved in a car accident according to a detailed report by Monash University Accident Research Centre (MUARC). The study is of particular importance because several previous studies by other organizations on car color and its relationship to accidents were inconclusive.
The study named colors that may be less visible during the day, such as black or dark blue, as being associated with higher incidents of car accidents during the daytime. Study findings reveal that the following colors of motor vehicles are related to higher risk of motor vehicle accidents, with some exceptions such as weather conditions and environmental factors, during the daytime:
- Black
- Dark Blue
- Grey
- Dark Green
- Brown
- Red
- Dark Silver
The following list of colors have been found to be safer to drive during the day:
- Lime Yellow
- Bright Yellow
- White
- Shimmering Gold
- Shimmering Silver
During the night time, color becomes less important and accidents are less likely to occur due to color. This is because darkness makes color less distinguishable and headlights also reduce the effects of car color. Also, while the color of a vehicle is one factor that may be worth looking into when buying a car, it is not nearly as important as buying or leasing a car with good airbag protection, electronic stability programs, safety features, vehicle size, height of the vehicle from the ground, type of tires on the car, magazine and consumer digest ratings, all-wheel drive or full-wheel drive and many other safety factors that potential car owners generally look into before committing to a car.
Moreover, car color is not nearly as influential in an increased risk of an accident than paying close attention to and keeping your eyes on the road, avoiding driving while tired or on little rest, driving responsibly, not driving after drinking or using drugs and driving within the speed limit.
